So we addressed the issuer and it was informed that 8040 is the code for customer account management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reference 10016.8040 is a restriction on new credit card accounts from Capital One. It is an internal reference code so the message will only be retrieved for existing Capital One customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Capital One allows only one new account every six months. When existing customers open more than one credit card account in a semester, the restriction ref. no. 10016.804 appears.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n There were several massive letters sent to existing customers to open more credit card accounts and customers were taking the opportunity to do so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The restriction from opening more than one credit card in a semester has the goal of avoiding credit card churning with their SUB incentives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The new card will remain for you on status restricted until the six-month barrier passes.
