While there is no official statement which validates this latest development, if true, it can prove to be the break Samsung has been seeking for the longest time. The exclusivity means that no other smartphone manufacturer would be able to incorporate the Snapdragon 820 in their devices.

While Samsung would only enjoy the exclusivity for a few weeks, it can help the flagging South Korean phone maker establish a significant lead over its competitors. The company is on track to release its next series of flagship smartphones next year, which includes the Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge, Galaxy S7 Plus, and Galaxy S7 Edge Plus. The aforementioned handsets are rumored to sport the Snapdragon 820 or Samsung’s own Exynos mobile processors.

Ironically, Samsung snubbed Qualcomm for its previous release of Galaxy S6 series smartphones. Given its own in-house developed Exynos processors failed to impress, it’s no surprise Samsung has decided its next set of smartphones should incorporate one of the most powerful processors out in the market.

Apple’s iPhone has made life difficult for Samsung, surging in popularity and breaking records after records. It’s no secret that Apple phones are powered by powerful processors, which dwarfs Samsung’s Exynos processors. If Samsung wants to stop its rapid decline, it is only logical to turn to the Snapdragon 820, which provides that same if not better performance than Apple’s A9 and A8X processors.

The performance test results for the Snapdragon 820 provide a better understanding. In the single-core performance test, it scored 2456, which is roughly the same as Apple’s score of 2537. More importantly, the new chipset dominated the multi-core performance test, scoring 5432 compared to 4454 posted by the iPhone 6s.

While this is all hearsay for the moment, it is hard to discard the fact that Samsung is in a dire need of a quick fix to turnaround its dwindling fortunes and it might have found one in the Snapdragon 820.
