There is nothing worse then going out to your hot tub to have a soothing soak in the warm waters only to find out that your hot tub or spa shutdown at some point and is no longer working. This can happen for a number of reasons and is sometimes a quick fix like a breaker or a dirty filter. And sometimes it can be something more severe like an issue with your pump motor. And one item to consider is the hot tub pump motor capacitor.
Hot Tub Pump Motor Capacitor
One of the first signs you have a pump issue is the sound it makes when you turn the hot tub on. If you hear a humming noise coming from your pump motor it means it is not turning and your hot tub issue is at the pump. After checking for debris or a ceased impeller, most people and service technicians at this point just change out the pump for a new one but before you do you should also check the hot tub pump motor capacitor. Often the culprit to your hot tub motor not running is simply the capacitor, which is a very quick replacement and repair. A new hot tub pump motor capacitor can be replaced for a fraction of the price of a new hot tub pump and motor. Some hot tub or spa motors have two capacitors. There is a run capacitor and a start capacitor. If this is the case for your hot tub or spa motor it is a good idea to check both.
