Uba Tuba is perhaps the most popular variety of granite, due to its low price and versatility. Uba Tuba is commonly used for residential kitchen and bathroom countertops, tiles, backsplashes and sinks. It is also a popular choice for commercial buildings, largely because of the price.

Quarried in Brazil, Uba Tuba is plentiful. The quarry that produces the granite is very large. Uba Tuba is very dark in color – usually a very dark green that is often mistaken for black – with flecks of tan, gold, silver and green. The exact color varies based on the section of the quarry where the granite originated.

Uba Tuba goes by several other names, including Butterfly, Verde Uba Tuba, Verde Labrador and Green Labrador. Generally, any variety that is labeled “verde” or “green” will be brighter green.

Cost of Uba Tuba Granite

Uba Tuba is one of the least expensive granites on the market. Granites are grouped into five price classifications – A, B, C, D and E – with A being the least expensive and E the most expensive. Uba Tuba is an A.

(Keep in mind that price classifications do not simply reflect the quality of a particular granite. They also reflect the rarity.)

If you’re hiring a professional to install granite countertops, budget about $40 to $60 per square foot for the project. That includes fabrication and installation of your counters, but not delivery. Fancy edges, backsplashes and cutouts for the sink, faucets and stove will cost extra.

If you’re tackling the project yourself, the cost will be much lower. A countertop slab of Uba Tuba measuring 78 inches by 26 inches sells for about $250 to $400, while an island slab measuring 78 inches by 36 inches sells for about $350 to $500. In both cases, expect the slabs to be 1 1/4 inches thick.

Uba Tuba Granite Reviews

Don’t be fooled by the price: Uba Tuba is extremely durable. Like all dark granites, it is very dense and does not require sealing. Uba Tuba is stain resistant, heat resistant and scratch resistant. Because of the color, it hides dirt well.

The primary downside to Uba Tuba is that it’s a little overdone. The low price, combined with the fact that granite has been trendy for more than a decade now, have made Uba Tuba an extremely popular choice. The granite also features larges stones and little veining, which some people don’t like.
